What follows is an overview of measuring procedures. Please contact us before measuring. A packet of information will be sent to you upon request with specific instructions and drawings that will make the task of measuring easy!

Two ways to measure - novice or expert.

Measuring for the novice:

Measure for the width of the window. Measure the distance between the window trim. Take three measurements: top, middle and bottom near the sill. Use the shortest measurement of the three measurements.

Measure for the height of the window. The height of the storm window should equal the height of the side window trim at its longest point. Measure on both sides of the window from the bottom of the head trim to the window sill where the window trim rests on the sill at its longest point. Use the shorter of the two measurements.

Measure for the placement of the center rail. Measure from the bottom of the head trim to the center of the rails where the two windows meet. This measurement need not be as exact as the other two.

Measuring for the expert:

Measuring procedures are exactly the same for the expert as for the novice but the longest measurement is used for the height and width. The extra width and height will create a tight fit or prevent the window from fitting at all. The sides and top will have to be trimmed to make a good fit with an even reveal on both sides of the window. A quarter inch can be trimmed from each side and top of the window.
